OK gang.... So we ordered the G0512 sander from Grizzly about 4 months ago, they where back ordered and said they would get more in. As of today I gave up, cancelled my order and asked for my money back. After this long a period they should just take it out of their catalog.... So I need to find something similar, I was actually thinking of looking for one that would tilt from horizontal to vertical. I want to be able to make jigs for it to do radiusing, shaping and part making. Good dust collection is a must and of course I don't want to spend a fortune. I really liked the wrap around table idea that grizzly had and whatever I buy, will either need to have something like that or something I can build like that. So suggestions on what people have now and what they have seen would be very helpful, I'm building up a full build schedule right now and can't wait on grizzly any longer to get me one... Powermatic and Jet both make long belts like the Grizzly but $$$. I know the Powermatic tilts flat and I THINK the Jet does as well. |

I'm really mad at grizzly because that thing is perfect for what I need, I might try to find a used one somewhere. I'll have to check the Jet and see if you can use both sides, I'd like to be able to raise it vertical and then add a wrap around table... Maybe I'm asking too much... -Paul- |

I've got the 6x89 Jet. It's got a sort of wrap around table, but you're sanding against the aluminum roller (thunk thunk). I'd seriously consider an oscillating belt model. They run much cooler (the belt & your work), belts last much longer, etc. etc.. I dot't know if they're capable of tilting to horizontal, but 99% of the time mine is in the upright and locked position. -C |

Paul, I have the Powermatic 2 HP, 6 x 89 -made in Taiwan. I really like it. It has the wrap around table and tilts to horozontal. Runs very smooth. I highly reccomend it. I think I paid about $600. for it. |

I had the same problem with Grizzly with one of thier new spray booths, I finally cancelled the order after 4 months. Gary |

The nice thing about tilting the sanding head/belt to the horizontal position is that it can then be used as a "jointer" for workpieces even wider than the belt. I do this by moving the piece back and forth across the belt while also applying a "seesaw" motion. The flatness of the generated surface is rather amazing. |

All this grizzly machinery comes from overseas and if it isn't scheduled for production, it will definately take a while. I'm sure they will eventually be able to fill your order but it comes down to how much your willing to wait. |

4 months is just a little too long for me, 3 I was okay but now it's after HB and I need to get busy again and really need to get one in my shop. There are things I want to do that I just can't right now... Good idea Mr Hall, I'll go check... Thanks -Paul- |

Paul--I've been using the Woodtek 6x89 for several years now. (Woodworker's Supply) It was a basket case when received, bad welds, weak motor mount etc. Spent some time rebuilding it and has been a workhorse ever since. Mounted a dial indicator for setting the head back to square with the table and that took a lot of time out of switching between horizontal and vertical modes. A 36 or 60 grit belt will hog material (and fingernails) off rapidly. I sold my jointer as no longer had a need for it. Would like to have an oscillating belt machine someday. |

Rumor is Grizzly is cutting back production of new equipment until the new catalog/prices come into effect. As the current price list and catalog were being released the price of iron was skyrocketing. Between the increases in iron/scrap, fuel, and the relatively weak US dollar you can expect a lot of things to start costing more in the near future. |
